Also known as The Rubber Band Ligation Hemorrhoid Surgery

Prolapsed hemroids can be treated with Rubber Band Ligation surgery, provided they are not beyond the point of returning inside of their own accord. In other words, the hemroids only show themselves for brief amounts of time.

Hemroids banding is also good for internal hemroids that do not show themselves, but which may cause other problems, such as bleeding.

For hemroids banding to work, the hemroids need to be of medium size - small hemroids are unable to be banded, while big hemroids resist this treatment very well.

The Banding Hemroid Surgery - How it is Done

Understanding the hemroids banding tool

Rubber band ligation uses a special implement, which, simplistically, is a tube.  The tube holds a tiny elastic band which is very stretched, but held in place by a trigger.  When the trigger is pulled, the elastic band "fires" down the outside of the tube and comes off ( onto the base of the hemroid ) .

How the Hemroid Banding tool is used

The hemroids banding implement is inserted into the anal canal. Once the hemroid or hemroids cluster is viewed, it is fully inserted into, and clasped by the banding implement.  The rubber band is released from around the tool to bite onto the base of the hemroid. The doctor or surgeon will continue to do this until all the hermoids are banded.

From memory, the anal opening is expanded and held open by another tool, which allows the hemroids banding tool to be inserted, moved about, taken out and reloaded without you feeling this all that much.

Hemroids banding is all done without anaesthetic, while you are laying on your side, with your knees pulled as high as you can pull them. There is normally no or very little pain involved with this hemroid surgery, just much discomfort.  You experience the rubber band being fired, but not really pain.

What Does Hemroids Banding Do?

The rubber band ligation surgery causes the hemroids to whither and die, as the elastic band normally strangles the hemroid or hemroids cluster from it's blood supply and, within a week, or there abouts, the hemroids are passed out in the stool undetected. I think hemroids banding is one of the easiest of the hemroid surgeries.

This hemroids surgery also has the advantage that the body is normally left basically undamaged, therefore it doesn't normally require a long recovery period.

My big negatives about the hemroids banding, for my hemroids anyway, was the strong feeling of discomfort and the hemroid banding also left me feeling I had a bowel motion to pass, these symptoms lasted for several days. Not really pain, just massive discomfort.

I was very glad, after having the hemroids banding, that I wasn't working for those few days.

Recovery Time following a Hemroids Banding Operation

The recovery time following a hemroid banding is normally one to three or four days, week at the most, unless something goes wrong.

Update

As an update on me and my hemroid bandings surgery, I have had no trouble with hemroids for many months now.  As of 2008, I can now say years. For me, the hemroid banding surgery has worked well and I follow the information on my causes and prevention page, as well as use some hemroid remedies to hopefully strengthen my blood vessels and doing the right things, such as high fiber diet and water.

Provided the hemroids are not too big nor small, the hemroids banding will work completely for the vast majority, close to 100%.

Relapse

Do the right things and you probably wont get the hemroids returning.  The hemroids banding I mention about myself above, also included my second attempt, the first hemroids banding got rid of my hemroids and I remained hemroid free for some time, but I didn't do the right things, with diet in particular and paid the price.

Second time round the surgeon reckoned the banding was unlikely to go well, but with high fiber and so on, the hemroid banding appears to be my last operation and I believe I am now hemroid free.  Quite remarkable, as the last hemroid banding didn't kill them all off - many of my hemroids were too big at the time and my anal tissue incidentally was very weakened and likely to give rise to more hemroids.

So doing the right thing, made the hemroids banding work for me, even though I was suppose to be beyond the help of hemroids banding operations.
